More Star Trek Gaming Developments

The Star Trek universe has always been a popular one for games over the years. In the last two years, of course, ST gaming has centered on Star Trek Online, the MMO that was launched in 2010. STO is in the news once again this week, as it was announced that Chinese MMO publisher Perfect World has agreed to purchase Cryptic Studios from Atari. The sale is still pending while closing arrangements are made. The future of STO is still not entirely known. Not only does Cryptic already use the free-to-play (F2P) model, Perfect World has a number of F2P games that are currently live, with more games in development. Does this mean that STO will go F2P? Not sure yet, but there is always that chance. You can learn more about Perfect Worlds at their website.</p>

Tried STO and didn’t like it? Not interested in a monthly fee for a game? Want to play more Star Trek games? Well, you’re in luck. Two more Star Trek games are on the horizon, Star Trek: Infinite Space and Star Trek The Game.

Star Trek: Infinite Space has been in the works now for some time, and is due to be released this summer. Coming to us from Gameforge, this will be an F2P web browser game. According to the official website, the game will employ 3D graphics, and was created in cooperation with Michael and Denise Okuda, who are well known for their graphic work in the Star Trek universe. The involvement of the Okudas should mean that this will definitely look and feel like a Star Trek game.
